On June 17, 2024, the Wilson County Commission voted unanimously to reclassify Public Safety Telecommunicators in this county as First Responders.  In a move that is gaining traction for counties across the nation, the Wilson County Commission, under Resolution Number 24-6-5, publicly declared that they support the men and women that hold the "Thin Gold Line".  This Resolution, in part, states: "Whereas, the Public Safety Telecommunicator is not recognized by the Federal Government as a protected classification.  Despite all the requirements they must meet to work in this position, the Federal Office of Management and Budget classifies this group of individuals as clerical staff, but we dissent.  Wilson County could not wait for the 9-1-1 SAVES Act that is stalled in Congress to give our dispatchers the classification of First Responders that they have earned and deserved...... Additionally, Wilson County supports the 9-1-1 SAVES Act to properly classify the profession of Public Safety Telecommunicators. "

"I'm very proud of our PSAP and the hard work our team puts into their prospective roles. They all pitch in to make sure we are being our BEST, and the data has shown how the role of our telecommunicators makes a difference and truly saves seconds!" said by Bridgett Clark, Supervisor/PIO

We want to thank Commissioner Lauren Breeze for championing this resolution, as well as, the Wilson County Commission, Mayor Randall Hutto, Sheriff Bryan and the Wilson County Sheriff's Department, Chief Cooper and the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency, Wilson County 9-1-1 Board, Wilson County 9-1-1 Director Karen Moore, Office Manager Amanda Dodd, Human Resources Teresa Fisher, and a host of others that supported this reclassification.
